X-Men 3's Ratner to make Harbinger

News came out on Friday that Brett Ratner, the guy who directed the three Rush Hour films as well as X-Men 3: The Last Stand, has locked up another comic book to bring to film.

Harbinger is a comic series from the 1990s that was created by Jim Shooter and published by now-defunct Valiant Comics, which was sold to Acclaim Entertainment in 1994.

A new company, Valiant Entertainment, has been formed to bring Harbinger and other Valiant characters back into the pop culture fabric.

Harbingers, in this world, are people with "incredible abilities triggered in the face of severe stress that, reflective of their personalities, could make them feel abnormal and alone. Without guidance, Harbingers could become dangerous."

Toyo Harada is a megalomaniac who runs the Harbinger Foundation, and is secretly trying to take over the world. Sting, a former student of Harada, has assembled a rag-tag group who try to put a stop to Harada's plans.

Ratner is attached to the new film project as a producer and a director.

In the meantime, Valiant Entertainment has released a digitally re-coloured and re-mastered special edition of the Harbinger origin story, written by Jim Shooter. It's available in comic stores now, but you can preview Harbinger: The Beginning, for free over here.
